GO Timer Apple Watch Application

2021, 4 Weeks

Challenge:

Timing contractions accurately is crucial in the final stages of pregnancy, yet it’s often a stressful, unpredictable experience. Traditional tools like phones or stopwatches can be out of reach when contractions begin, leaving pregnant individuals to rely on memory — which can be unreliable during pain or panic. The challenge was to design a tool that supports real-time tracking with minimal friction, reduces guesswork, and increases confidence and clarity during one of life’s most intense moments.

Role:

As the sole designer and researcher on this mock project, I led the end-to-end design of a Contraction Timer app tailored specifically for the Apple Watch. I focused on accessibility, ease of use, and minimal interaction effort, ensuring that individuals could log contraction timing and intensity with just a few taps. I also explored how to visually present contraction patterns in a way that was digestible and empowering — not overwhelming — and designed companion screens for healthcare providers to review user data throughout pregnancy.

Impact:

Though a mock project, this work demonstrates how design can provide emotional support as well as functional clarity. By leveraging wearable technology, the app allows for discreet, hands-free, real-time tracking of physical experiences — helping individuals feel more informed and less alone. Beyond labor, it offers a new way for doctors and patients to communicate about contraction patterns across the pregnancy journey, potentially leading to earlier interventions and improved care. The project showcases how empathetic, user-centered design can meet critical health needs with calm and confidence.
