FOR the love of type
Book design, layout, and typesetting.
1-Month Project · February 2021
Student Project
Role: Contributing Designer
Researched and designed a publication compiling the research and typographic analysis of various typefaces, each contributed by a different designer.
Tools: Figma, Adobe CC, Google Slides
Challenge:
Design a cohesive and visually engaging publication compiling the research and typographic analysis of various typefaces, each contributed by a different designer. The challenge was to maintain consistency in layout and style while allowing for individual expression and deep-dive analysis into each typeface’s history, structure, and impact.
Role:
As a contributing designer, I was responsible for the research, visual analysis, and layout of the Catalpa typeface section. In addition, I took the lead on designing the book’s cover, colophon, bibliography, and interstitial/filler pages to create a unified and elevated visual experience across the full collection.
Book includes work by Ally Chen, Ren Conger, Micol D’Aloisio, Ten Crandall, Josie Doan, Jordan Enoch, Emma Fisher, Izzy Flint-Gonzalez, and Annie Flowers.
Impact:
The final book functioned as both a typographic reference and a showcase of design thinking. My contributions helped unify the diverse voices within the project into a singular artifact — balancing form, function, and educational value.
